June marked the end of the sunny days of April and May. For The Creative Stills team June came and left in a flash – it is a very popular month to get married.

Have you ever wondered why June is one of the most popular months to get married?

It all dates back to the Romans. On June 1, they celebrate the festival in honor of the deity Juno. Unions on this month will bring favor to marriages and childbirth.

During the 1400-1500 communal bathes also took place in June. They believed that to marry when someone is clean is a good beginning. Months before the wedding, brides would carry flowers to mask their body odors, this started the tradition of carrying bouquets.

The Celtics also believed that when people marry on June, the Honeymoon pregnancies would result in spring time babies, which would then have better chances of survival after the long cold winter.

Recent  films reinforce these traditions. Like the 1948 movie “June Bride” with Betty Davis, “Wedding Crashers” in 2005 and “27 Dresses” with Katherine Heigl in 2008 – all featured marriages that took place on June.

The ladies in the the classic musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers would sing:

For they say when you marry in June, you’re a Bride all your life.

And the Bride Groom who marries in June, gets a sweetheart for a wife.

There are many myths and traditions surrounding weddings. Some are well alive until today, while some are already forgotten and some are modified to fit our modern setting.

Before, weddings were pre-arranged and served as business contracts between two families. But today, a wedding is an expression of love and loyalty between two people and two families become one through this romantic union.

To all our June brides and bride grooms, best wishes and may the goddess Juno always bless your marriage.
